Hotels in Slovenia
Our very first tourist farm, Šeruga has consistently provided our customers with tranquility, excellent cooking and a very warm welcome.
As we hope you would expect, the bedrooms are all pine, linen and light. The beds are traditionally large and the rooms prettily furnished. All have en suite shower rooms.
A note about tourist farms
This is a designation imposed by the Slovenian tourist authorities - it simply means that something rustic is also going on at a particular hotel. Could be wine making, corn growing or rabbit herding.
However, the thing is that you won't be sleeping in the hay loft, or wading through piggy poo, or woken by the wenches on their way to milk a moo at half-past nothing in the morning.
The restaurant is actually very sought-after. Most of the dishes are based on local Dolenjska cuisine, but brought up to date (i.e. less stodge, more cuisine). Almost all of the ingredients are organic and grown on the farm itself, or sourced from local producers.
On our first trip there (just to see where it was) we were told by the manager of Otočec that we really, really should try to eat. Unfortunately, we were too late and had regretted it for a while... until we eventually got to stay.
The smell of freshly-baked bread wafts you across the stream to your breakfast - but you won't be wafted out again so easily after breaking your fast so completely. Do as much as you can during the day, as you'll need to make a hole big enough for the roasted porky-worky/baked trout/štrukli/palačinki Eva and Lili will be filling you with in the evening.

In the summer, shorts, frocks, T-shirts, sandals (or sturdy shoes or boots if you're off walking), something warmer for the evenings and something waterproof in case it rains. In winter: wrap up!
More than welcome.
Šeruga is open all year.
Summers are warm - July and August are the hottest months, with daytime temperatures around 25C, while during spring and autumn you can expect around 15-20C.
Winters can be very cold indeed, with deep snow sometimes between December and March.
Awesome rural spot. Great hospitality, wonderful home cooking (first class) and comfortable rooms overlooking the trout stream. What a fun place to stay. Great value and a chance to try some of the local specialties, including of course, trout! Bread was made daily too. Fantastic.
Loved it we had an excellent time, Šeruga is fantastic and we could not fault it and we are currently recommending it to everyone.
Thanks for all your help you've been great.
Šeruga far exceeded my expectation of accomodation and food. The farm was exceptionally well maintained, the bedroom/bathroom and all reception rooms were very clean. The food was delicious and well presented. Lilli and Eva provided first class accommodation.
Lilly, family, pets and farm were wonderful. IMHO, that was my favorite place of our five lodgings, and--had I known how lovely l it would be--would have tried to stay longer. Oh yes, and finally, the welcoming cats and dog were a big deal. I don't think that I've recently seen my husband as happy and relaxed as he was for the two days that we were there.
Šeruga was so much better than anything we expected, beautiful accommodation at a ridiculously low price.
Lovely, lovely place with lovely, lovely people - it would be difficult to overstate this. The farm was beautiful - green, pretty, lots of open spaces and things for us to look at, goats to feed, friendly dog, babbling brook and so on. Lili and Eva were the friendliest, kindest hosts.
