Hotels in Slovenia
Nebesa, Kobarid, Soča Valley
Nebesa means 'heaven' in Slovenian. We can't add to that.
The first thing you'll notice is the almost mystical peace, which isn't surprising, given that you'll be 900m above the rest of humanity. There are just four chalets - each sleeping only two people - angled just so that you feel entirely alone. The entire front wall is glass, so that you have a completely unrestricted view across the Soča Valley. Even if it's not a clear day, gazing at the mountains above the clouds can be mesmerising. But enough of the view: the chalets are beautifully designed, gorgeously furnished and perfectly functional. We did wonder at the lack of at least breakfast being offered... until our first morning. You will find everything you need in the fridge, so you can make breakfast at your own leisure, without having to face another human being. Much better than room service. The beds are very comfortable - only take care: I nearly brained myself a few times on the steeply sloping ceiling.
Tall people: take a lot of care.
Apart from breakfast, which is included, meals are not provided at Nebesa. However, local cured meats, cheeses and wines are available in the little communal cellar, where you can sit, munch and chat, take them up to the communal dining room or even to your own chalet.
Happily though, you will be only a short drive away from some of the best restaurants in Slovenia - in fact, some of the best restaurants (Topli Val, Kotlar, Breza) we know anywhere, plus their daughter Ana's place, Hiša Franko.

In the summer, shorts, frocks, T-shirts, sandals (or sturdy shoes or boots if you're off walking), something warmer for the evenings and something waterproof in case it rains. In winter: wrap up!
Nebesa is open all year.
You might be in the mountains, but the Soča Valley is warmed by winds blowing up from the Adriatic. July and August are the hottest months, with daytime temperatures around 25C, while during spring and autumn you can expect around 15-20C. Evening temperatures will be rather lower, so bring something a little warmer. The area does boast the highest rainfall in Slovenia (which is why it is so lush), so expect at least one rainy day.
Bojan and Katja made our holiday at Nebesa the best. They gave us just the right amount of attention - helped us and assisted without intruding on our space.
We will definitely go back and visit (probably in the summer) to see the view in a different season (we'd love to see it all year round!) Its truly incredible.
We had a fantastic holiday in Slovenia - Nebesa was fabulous - a MUST for anyone travelling to Slovenia!
The hotel was amazing, more of an "experience" than an hotel. We were disappointed with the weather, which affected most of Europe at the time, but took full advantage of the views and peace. Our photographs look more like postcards than holiday snaps.
Nebesa was unbelievable. It took us several hours of simply walking around the place, soaking up the top-class accommodation, the magnificent views, the facilities (swimming pool, gymnasium, dining, sauna) - our mouths open in amazement - we were silent, not able to put our thoughts into words that made any sense.
And the hosts were lovely too. We cannot wait to return, hopefully with friends or other family members.
I have never been to a place before that so exceeded expectations.
When we arrived at Nebesa, Jane and I weren't talking to each other. Not because we'd had an argument or anything, just that we were walking around the place for a couple of hours speachless at how lovely it was - we couldn't say anything, just had our jaws dropped.
Can't wait to go again.
Many thanks for all your suggestions which were spot on - we would never have heard of Nebesa (magic indeed) or visited Korabid and Hisa Franko otherwise - everything went very smoothly and Katja and Bojan were just wonderful - turning up with home made butter and jam, cherries and cutting us prsut and local cheese.
Hello Bob - just a quick note to say that everything you said about Nebesa was true: we did cry before we left. What's more, Katja and Bojan were the perfect hosts and the restaurants in Kobarid were wonderful. Thank you for helping us recharge our batteries.
Hi Bob. Nice to hear from you. We had a wonderful time at Nebesa. It was everything your brochure had promised and more; Katja and Bojan were the perfect hosts and gave us lots of good information on walks etc. We were not sitting on top of a mountain for the week - we were walking up others! We will definitely be returning.
What a brilliant place!!! Such kind hosts and made us feel so welcome. They were there when we needed them and not when we didn't. The set up was perfect, especially the leisure facilities and the food arrangements. Had the weather been bad we could have holed up there for all 4 nights, but as the weather was gorgeous we took advantage of the fantastic walks in the area. We also ate at Hisa Franko one evening and that was also a real treat. We really didn't want to come home.
Dear Bob: One question is still unanswered in my mind. Do i tell everyone what a wonderful holiday Andrew and myself had in Sloveneia or do i keep quiet about the gems we found particularly Nebesa? what a jewel. With many thanks and wonderful memories.
